How Pre-Assessments Get Assigned

When you add students to a group, the platform automatically assigns the right pre-assessment. You don’t have to pick one by hand or set anything up before the first Session - it’s handled as soon as the group takes shape. This keeps the start of a Program consistent.

How the Pre-Assessment Is Chosen

  • Curriculum drives the choice. The platform looks at the group’s curriculum and assigns the matching pre-assessment. A group covering more than one subject gets a pre-assessment for each.
  • Grade level sets the version. The platform uses the group’s grade range - the lowest grade among the students - to select the right version of the pre-assessment.
  • It happens as students are added. The assignment updates as your group is built, so by the time your roster is set, the correct pre-assessment is already in place.

Math Groups: A Pre-Assessment for Each Domain

Math works a little differently. A Math group is assessed on every Domain in its Program up front - at intake the platform assigns a pre-assessment for each Domain the Program targets, rather than one Domain at a time. A Domain whose assessment doesn’t reach the group’s lowest grade is skipped, and each Domain has a single pre-assessment (with a paired post-assessment) that covers every grade.

So a student in a Math group may have several pre-assessments to work through at the start. From there the group moves from one Domain to the next on its own - see What a Post-Assessment Does.

What Happens to Grade Level After Assignment

Grade level is editable while you’re setting the group up. Once the pre-assessment is auto-assigned, the grade level locks so the assigned assessment stays aligned with the students in the group.

Reviewing the Assignment

You can see the assigned pre-assessment on the group’s page. The platform assigns it to the group’s next Session for you - see How Content Gets Assigned to Your Sessions.

Reminders for a Missing Assessment

If a student has attended several Sessions without a pre-assessment on record (four, as it stands), the platform emails you a reminder so it doesn’t slip. The reminder names the group and the assessment type, with a link that takes you straight to where you administer it.
