Joining a Session in Lessonspace
Braintrust Tutoring online Sessions happen in Lessonspace, the shared online classroom you and your students work in together. When you start a Session from your Dashboard, it opens in Lessonspace with the assigned lesson ready to go. This article covers getting into the room; for the tools once you’re there, see In-Session Tools.
Opening the Room
Start the Session from your Dashboard - either the Next Session card or the Session on your schedule - and it opens in Lessonspace with the assigned lesson loaded. See Starting a Session.
What You’ll See
Lessonspace is a collaborative classroom: a shared whiteboard and workspace you and your students use in real time, with the lesson materials open alongside in the Resource Drawer. Your students join the same room, so everyone is looking at the same content together. Alongside the whiteboard you have a chat and a visible timer for the Session. For what’s in the drawer and the in-room controls, see In-Session Tools.
A Session ends either when you end it or automatically after its set length. Note that a Tutor Manager or other Braintrust staff may silently observe a live Session for quality and consistency - they don’t take part, and it doesn’t change how you run the room.
When You Can Get In
You can enter the room up to five minutes before the scheduled start - use that window to preview the lesson materials in the Resource Drawer. You can’t get in earlier than that, so if a lesson looks like it’s missing or won’t launch, you’ll spot it in those few minutes before the Session or right as it begins. If something’s wrong, contact your Braintrust team right away.
If You Get Dropped Mid-Session
If your connection drops or you get removed from the room mid-Session, rejoin the same way you started - from the Session on your Dashboard. Your place in the lesson is preserved.
