Launching a Game
Games start from your side of the Session. You open a game from the Resource Drawer and it launches in a new browser tab on your computer. From there, students either watch and play along on your screen or, in an online Session, open a link you send them and play on their own device.
Opening the Game Picker
- In the Resource Drawer, on the Session Agenda tab, click Tools (next to the program name at the top).
- In the form that opens, select the Games card, then click Launch.
- The game picker opens in a new browser tab, already set to your group’s program (Math, or Reading & Spelling).
Picking a Game and a Lesson
The picker shows the available games as cards. Each card shows the game’s name, how many lessons it covers, and a marker if it supports more than one player.
- Find a game by lesson. Type a lesson number or name into the search bar at the top - for example
K.10orcounting. The results list the games that cover that lesson; click one to open it straight away. - Browse a game. Click a game card to see the lessons it covers, and check the lesson or lessons you want. Some games let you pick several lessons at once and combine them; others let you pick one. Click Launch Game.
The game opens in another new tab.
Getting the Game in Front of Students
The game is open on your computer, so there are two ways students can play.
On your screen. In an online Session, share your screen in Lessonspace and choose the game’s tab. In an in-person Session, students watch your screen. Either way, you run the game and the group plays together.
On their own devices (online Sessions only). Copy the game’s web address from your browser’s address bar and paste it into the Lessonspace chat. Students open the link on their own device and choose Solo Play on the game’s start screen. Because the link carries the lesson you picked, every student lands on the same game and lesson. In-person Sessions don’t have a chat, so this option is online only.
When you’re done, close the game tab and go back to the Session tab. Nothing in the Session changes while the game is open.
When Games Fit
Games are on demand - you launch one whenever you decide to, and nothing assigns them to a Session for you. They work well when a student has nothing assigned for the Session (see How Content Gets Assigned to Your Sessions) or when you have time left after a lesson.
